Advanced Control

Students: Elective master program
Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Erdal Kayacan
Credit points 6

This course focuses on multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) systems, which describe processes with more than one input and output. Some examples of MIMO systems include but are not limited to, chemical reactors, autonomous cars, and unmanned aerial vehicles. These systems are in contrast to systems with one single input and one single output (SISO). MIMO systems bring additional complexities to the control problem, such as multiple loops and cross-couplings. Therefore, the controller design for MIMO systems is more complicated than SISO systems.

This course will cover the following content:

- MIMO state-space models
- Stability, controllability, and observability
- Linear quadratic regulator (LQR) design
- Optimal state estimation (Kalman filter)
- Linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) regulator
- Basics of model predictive control
